Yaniya Mikhalina is a Volga Tatar artist, researcher, and thinker based in Oslo. Her work engages with cross-colonial realities and the psychic and institutional conditions they produce, tracing how imperial structures settle into voice, memory, and capacity to imagine feminist and post-imperial futures. Working across image-making, listening, languaging, editing, and archiving, she explores the political-spiritual forms of documentary practices. Her works have been shown at Haus der Kulturen der Welt; Trondheim Kunstmuseum; UKS; Vleeshal Center for Contemporary Art; Tallinn Art Hall; and documenta 15 Lumbung Cinema, among other places. She holds a PhD titled Colonial Mədness: Feminist-Indigenous Cosmologies (2025).
